Hardware Reviews : Chips/Expansion

APOLLO 1240/1260 ACCELERATORS

Both boards can take an SCSI expansion but this has to be soldered in (as opposed to the Blizzard's pulg-in system) so if you want to add one later the original 1240/60 has to be returned to the distributor to have the SCSI fitted - a major drawback.

The 1260 showed a dissapointing speed increase due to the lack of patching software. Games and 3D rendering showed very little speedincrease at all.

The 1240 however gives the stock A1200 a serious boost and with some applications runs many times faster than the 1260!

A beefier power supply may be needed to run these boards (if you already have an internal hard drive). Cooling is also a factor.
